Christmas Brunch Tradition

One thing I love even more than Christmas Eve is Christmas brunch! The kitchen is quiet because everyone in the family is off playing with all the goodies from Santa! That is my peaceful moment! I get to sneak away to start brunch for my whole family. A few years back we started our “Christmas Bread Pudding” breakfast tradition, and I really love it! One year it was a French toast casserole. Another year it was a savory version with sausage and thyme. This year I’m going the sweet route and baking a blueberry bread pudding, using ingredients from ALDI.

I leave the Specially Selected Sliced Brioche Bread out the night before so that we wake up in the morning and it has had some time to dry out. Bread pudding is always best with dried bread. FACT. A scattering of torn bread, blueberries and a nice healthy pour of a sugary egg, milk mixture and you are good to go! This is what I love about bread pudding. It’s very hard to mess up!

The centerpiece of our Christmas brunch is almost always a brown sugar glazed ham. I was so happy to find an amazing ham at ALDI for an even better price! Their Appleton Farms Spiral Sliced Double Glazed Brown Sugar Ham comes pre-sliced and with a small packet of brown sugar and spices. You simply bake the ham, and in a small simmer pot, make the glaze. It really makes life easy.

We also always have a big selection of baked goods…and lucky for me, so does ALDI! I found bagels, Village Bakery Cinnamon Sweet Rolls, and mini muffins for the kids. I really loved the Chocolate Chip Christmas Tree Brioche!

Time to build our bagel station! We always have bagels. Mainly because Ryan and Luca love them! First, I snagged this awesome Crofton 3 Tier Buffet Server and it holds just the perfect amount of bagel toppings. Happy Farms Cream Cheese in the top tier, Specially Selected Cold Smoked Salmon in the second tier and Simply Nature Organic Bagels to fill the bottom!

Now for the best part. The moment when the bread pudding comes out of the oven and my whole family swarms the kitchen for breakfast! Making their plates, laughing, reaching across each other without using proper manners. Exactly what the holidays are supposed to feel like…

INGREDIENTS
Prep time: 40 mins
Cook time: 30 mins
Serves: 4-8
Specially Selected Sliced Brioche Bread, cut up (about 8 cups)
2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries

1 cup Baker’s Corner Premium Granulated Sugar
4 Simply Nature Organic Cage Free Brown Eggs
1-2 tsp of vanilla
2 cups Friendly Farms Whole Milk

The night before: lay out the brioche for it to dry out overnight.

In a small mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, sugar, cinnamon, eggs and vanilla. Whip till smooth.
Gradually add the milk to cream cheese mixture and combine.
Fill a baking dish with turn bread and blueberries.
Pour mixture over the bread. And let stand 20/30 minutes so the bread can absorb the milk.
Bake for 30 mins.
